Open driving insurance is an optional extra that can be added to your AXA car insurance policy which allows anyone aged between 25-70 with a full UK, Irish or EU driver’s license to drive your car. At an additional cost, you can choose to add the open driving cover to your Comprehensive, Third Party, Fire & Theft, or Third Party Only car insurance. We also have a wide range of other optional extras which you can choose from, to help you find a policy for your car and your lifestyle. Terms and conditions apply.

What are the benefits of open driving insurance?

A primary benefit of adding open driving to your car insurance policy is that if there ever comes a time when you need to allow someone to borrow your car for a few days, they don’t need to be added as a named driver to your car insurance policy. This allows you to have the peace of mind that both your car and the additional driver are protected while they borrow your car.

Can anyone drive my car if I have open driving insurance?

As with other insurance cover policies, at AXA we have defined criteria around our open driving insurance. The most important thing to note is that the designated driver must be aged between 25-70, have a full UK, Irish or EU driving license and have your permission to drive the car. This allows the driver to have the coverage open driving is providing. When adding open driving to your insurance make sure to read the terms and conditions of your policy to understand who can drive your car.
